We're here to help you pay for school.

Attending college is one of the most important investments of your life, as you will need to consider both the quality and cost of your education. However, it's not a decision you have to face alone. We're here to help you figure out the best plan for paying for school.

A variety of grants, loans, scholarships, and other types of aid are available for undergraduate and graduate students. Numerous benefits are also available to veterans of the armed services. Visit the Office of Veterans Affairs page to learn more.

As an HBCU, we have a long and proud history of offering educational access to students from all walks of life, and financial aid is a key part of that. Ninety-five percent of our undergraduate students receive some type of financial assistance, and 40% have received some institutional scholarships or grants. The Lincoln University Financial Aid staff is here to work with you and help you figure out exactly what you need and to make sure you get it.

Applying for Aid

Whether you are a new or returning student, your first and most important step will be filling out and submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The StudentAid.Gov website will provide instructions for completing your FAFSA. Please note: Lincoln University's Federal School Code is 003290: you'll need that to complete your form and ensure we receive it.  The 2023-2024 FAFSA is filed for the Fall 2023, Spring 2024, and the Summer 2024 semester funds.  

New and Transfer Students

  • You must complete your FAFSA by the priority filing deadline of April 1.
  • Make sure your bill is finalized by July 1 in order to be cleared financially.
    • The balance must be covered entirely or set up on a payment plan through the Bursar's Office.
  • If you are a new borrower, you must complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Loan Entrance Counseling at studentaid.gov in order for your Federal Direct Loans to be added to your account.
    • If you do not want a loan or any of the aid you were offered in your package, you must notify the Office of Financial Aid of this decision.
  • If your parent is interested in applying for a Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan, they can apply online at studentaid.gov after May 1 for the coming academic year.
    • Your parent must use their own log-in information on studentaid.gov in order to apply.

Returning Students

  • Complete your FAFSA. (You must file a FAFSA every academic year in order to continue receiving financial aid.)
  • If you receive a university scholarship—such as a merit or athletic scholarship—make sure your FAFSA is submitted before April 1 and all financial aid processes have been completed in order to receive your funds.
    • If you fail to apply before April 1, it could impact your eligibility.
    • This includes verification. If you have been selected for verification, it must be completed before you can be awarded for the coming academic year. You can view any missing documents in your self-service portal.
  • Returning students are generally awarded in May for the coming academic year. Offer letters will be viewable in the self-service portal and you will be notified through your Lincoln email when offer letters have been made available.
    • Please review your award offer as soon as possible to determine the best way to handle your bill.
    • You must accept or decline your Federal Loans in your self-service portal. 
  • If your parent is interested in applying for a Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan, they can apply online at studentaid.gov after May 1 for the coming academic year.

Our commitment to providing support and aid doesn't stop when you graduate. Lincoln is proud to offer the Horace Mann Bond - Leslie Pinckney Hill Scholarship to qualified Pennsylvania students pursuing pre-professional programs (law, medicine, podiatry, dentistry) at Pennsylvania State University, the University of Pittsburgh, Temple University, or at one of the universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE).
